Not only do narcissists expect automatic compliance of their wishes or special treatment wherever they go, you are supposed to know what they require at any given moment. They react with frustration and rage when they don’t get what they want. They can get verbally or even physically violent if someone questions them. They carry a constant feeling that every wrong that they have done—hardly any, from their own point of view—can and should be forgiven and forgotten. They take no responsibility for their behavior, and they have no qualms about blaming others.

Abusers take advantage of social norms.

An experienced abuser knows how to get people to sympathize with him and turn them against his target. Manipulating people is an entertaining game for him, and he enjoys feelings of power and superiority as he watches his ‘pawns’ subject his victim to criticism, blame, abuse, and rejection.

supposed.to accept an apology without question and act as if whatever happened never.happened.

The devious abuser will make a public apology while keeping the abuse covert. The victim then finds himself in a position where his complaints are met disbelief and he is criticized for “holding a grudge.”

Narcissists and sociopaths are among the most virulent smear campaigners, and histrionic and borderline people may also opt to smear those who upset them. Not surprisingly, these four disorders are classified as the dramatic and erratic high-conflict personalities.

Maybe what the four of you are saying does have some truth to it. What is it the four of you are saying? If you feel that there is something objectionable about her behavior, why won’t you say what it is instead of burning her at the stake?

The Silent Partner is any relative who stands by silently while you are victimized, or who takes the abuser’s side against the victim. She, or he, can be the other parent, who abdicates from parental responsibility to protect the children, or worse; sacrifices their wellbeing in order to make her/his own life easier.

In most cases of family abuse, there usually isn’t only one single Silent Partner. Several, if not many, family members collude with, protect, cooperate with the abuser, and participate in scapegoating, pressuring, ostracizing, or trying to silence the victim. I will refer to these evil participants in our abuse as the Silent Majority, although that term requires a bit of clarification. In many instances they are far from silent. Although they might be silent about the actual abuse inflicted upon us, they can be quite vehement in insisting that the victim is wrong for not continuing to accept it.

While encouraging an abuser to operate freely in their midst, they will not be silent when it comes to criticizing the victim. They will look the other way when the victim is being mistreated, never validating her or defending her, and then attack her when she defends herself. The one that they gossip about, smear to others, judge, and condemn will invariably be the victim rather than the abuser. In their sick, evil, twisted minds, it is the long-suffering victim who is the family “trouble-maker”, never the abuser himself. They don’t ever believe there’s anything wrong with him. They don’t see a problem with his behavior. Why? It’s simple. Birds of a feather stick together.

The Silent Partner and The Silent Majority don’t bat an eye at betraying an innocent family member and serving her up on a silver platter to be sacrificed to vicious, lifelong abuse. They specialize in re-victimizing the victim. Although not as open and obvious about it as the Alpha Dog abuser, they are every bit as guilty as he is. Either with their silence, or when speaking up against the wrong person, they allow and encourage the abuse to continue. They are partners with the abuser. They are abusers, too, and we need to recognize them.

Hi Scott!

It looks like everyone has gone crazy except you and me. But then, I am not too sure about you… ;-)

Witch burning is a group bonding activity.

You may not be aware that Gayatri has been directing hostility at me in various ways but without facing me for months, while I barely had any direct contact with her during that time. Recently, with the support of some of the guys, her hatred erupts into malicious action and ‘she-who-can-do-no-wrong’ indulges openly in outrageous character assassinations of me based on … what? Her own delusions. Bob, with an agenda of his own, judges without hearing my side of the story, then invalidates, defames, and condemns me. Openly, even gleefully, he makes a public display of his contempt. His confidence sets the ball rolling; the mob forms around him. When I ask Sean to explain his hate mail, he first mocks me and then threatens to report me to Gmail for spam and get a restraining order from police. The bonfire is alight. Matthew does not afford me a response when I ask if he is willing to talk with me. A secret pact to protect the mascot and to keep shared beliefs secret bonds the entrusted. They are in agreement. Consensus strengthens beliefs and strong beliefs become ‘truths’ that need no explanations. Witch burning elevates a sense of moral superiority where a moral conscience is lacking.

I know that you like to stay clear of disputes, but do you like to stay clear of injustice also, when you see it in your own neighborhood? I have been trashed, deserted, and burned at the stake. I never had a hearing, I never found out what the charges were, the sentencing was very harsh and without the option to appeal, and apparently, I am considered so despicable that I am not even worthy of an explanation. I know that you are different. I cannot imagine that you would support such intolerance and cruelty, at least not intentionally. But I would like to know what you do think about all this. I am all alone now. The bad guys won. Will you please share your thoughts about this with me?
